Today's movie: "Admission"
Follow Tina Fey as an Admissions Counselor (Portia) for the prestigious Princeton University, in case you ever wanted to know what that life was like lol. The previews set up the movie as a comedy in which Portia evaluates hundreds of high school seniors' college applications, and is the deciding factor as to whether they will be given the chance to pursue their lifelong dream (and perhaps continue the family legacy) of obtaining a degree from Princeton. Interesting note: Admissions Counselors (as well as any other position that makes decisions like employers, sororities, the coaches on "The Voice" tv show, etc) seem to view the applicant as just that, an applicant instead of a person, per se. Anyway, part of Portia's job involves visiting high schools across the country giving presentations about a Princeton education, and Portia's world and life becomes a "little" different after visiting a tiny non-traditional high school.
After viewing, I think the movie is actually more of a drama (I think that's the word I want to use), w/ a little bit of comedy. As the movie ended, I definitely put it in the "chick flick" category. I did laugh, some parts were cute and thought-provoking, but yeah, definitely more of a "chick flick." Tina Fey and Paul Rudd make a good team. Was very surprised to see and learn that Gloria Reuben (ER), Lily Tomlin, and Michael Sheen (plays Mark, Portia's boyfriend) were in this movie. (In case you were wondering, he played a vampire in Twilight Saga and a werewolf in Underworld movies and a reporter in Frost/Nixon). I never knew his name though, lol.
Rating: 3/5 stars
I liked it :-)
