This week's reviews: Dark Skies & Oz the Great & Powerful
Dark Skies: a family lives a typical, seemingly normal life in a wonderful, suburban neighborhood. Out of nowhere, weird stuff begins to happen in/to their homes and their lives. Full of lots of suspense, I jumped several times and was reminded a LOT of the movie, Poltergeist b/c of all the weird things that were happening. For those of you that don't do scary, never fear, this is not a demon-inspired or some other kind of crazy nut case killing you in your dreams kind of movie. I was definitely surprised w/ the culprit as well as the ending, that's for sure.
Rating: 3/5 stars
Oz: we all know the story of Dorothy, Glenda the Good, Elphaba (the green wicked witch), etc etc, but did you know that the great wizard Oz has a story too? Welcome to Oz, the Great and Powerful. I gotta admit, the whole time, I kept thinking about the movie The Wiz and how the characters compared (yeah, I know about the Wizard of Oz movie, but, this doesn't quite compare - except for the Tinkers, the Farmers, and the Munchkins :-) Anyway, this prequel gives an interesting scenario of how Theodora (AKA Evilene and Elphaba) actually came into existence, more information/background on Glenda the Good as well as Theodora's sister, and how the Wiz became so Great & Powerful, although, some of the information was "not so helpful." :-) 2 hours long and VERY colorful, safe for the kiddies, minus a few scenes that may be a little dark. If you enjoyed any of the Oz movies or even the play Wicked, you'd like this one too.
Rating: 3.5/5 - I just can't give it a perfect score even though costumes and special effects were great. If they bring it back w/ an African-American cast and some great dancing/musical scenes though, I'd probably give it a 5! :-)
Don't forget to "spring forward" Sunday morning, have a good weekend! :-)
